Burn detection
Burn detection is a method used to reliably identify surface burns forming during laser plastic welding.

The second generation of this testing method is designed to detect anomalies on the beam entry side of the covering component. In practice, these scorch marks measure only a few tenths of a millimeter and therefore have no verifiable influence on the strength of the joint line. However, burn residues may still be unacceptable in some applications for functional or aesthetic reasons.
The radiation emitted by burns ranges from the visible to the infrared spectrum. If radiation is detected in this wavelength range, the burn emissions signal can be clearly detected amongst the general background noise.
