Pyrometric monitoring of laser welding processes

Temperature Monitoring

In combination with a control process, the recorded temperature signal can be used to automatically adjust the laser output. One of the benefits of this is to directly compensate for material faults during the process.

A pyrometer measures the infrared radiation to automatically evaluate the quality of the weld seam: as long as the temperature curve stays within the specified band between the highest and the lowest limit (envelope evaluation), the system identifies the weld as successful.

Surface irregularities such as burns or scratches around the weld seam give rise to thermally detectable anomalies which may have to be remedied. The pyrometer signal can also be used to detect material fluctuations or contamination along the weld seam.
